Weight Training Offers Many Benefits

Attorney Joseph Napoli is a partner at Napoli Shkolnik PLLC in New York City. As an attorney, Joseph Napoli has experience with multimillion-dollar settlements and verdicts. While away from his career obligations, he enjoys weight training.

Committing to a weight training regimen isn’t just for individuals looking to bulk up their muscles. One major advantage is that muscle fights fat, according to a study conducted by Boston University researchers. The researchers found that type II muscle, which is built by lifting weights, improves overall metabolism.

In addition, weight training may lower individuals’ risk for diabetes. According to the Archives of Internal Medicine, men who routinely lifted weights for 150 minutes weekly reduced their risk for diabetes by 34 percent.

Weight training can also fight osteoporosis. Throughout the aging process, the loss of bone mass and muscle becomes more common. Just as muscles adapt to stress from weightlifting by becoming stronger, more bone is deposited as bones receive added stress.
